Cryptozoology is the study and search for hidden, unknown, out-of-place, or strange animals. Most people are likely to think of Bigfoot, or Nessie when they hear the word "cryptozoology", but the field is not necessarily confined to large beasts, or even well-known ones. New species are constantly being discovered. Some animals are actively searched for when regional inhabitants talk about certain animals that have not been officially recognized. Some are discovered accidentally while scientists are doing field work, and find an animal that is somehow different than any that are known. Cryptozoologists tend to fall into two groups...those that believe the animals they seek are viable flesh and blood, and those that believe that they are of a paranormal nature.

Have we found all the large animals still living in the world? Probably not, since in the last decade some previously unknown species have surfaced in Southeast Asia, for example. This page is dedicated to such animals -- commonly called "cryptids" -- which might possibly exist in nature but whose existence has not yet been accepted by modern science.

Cryptozoology - Searching for Hidden Animals
Cryptozoology is the study of newly discovered, rediscovered, and still unknown species of animals. While it is famous for the "mega-monsters" such as the Loch Ness monster, Sasquatch and Mokele-Mbembe(the supposed living dinosaur), and is often ridiculed, cryptozoology is actually a very sane, scientific and interesting field, if it is treated in the right way, and involves not only the superstar "monsters" but also inconspicous bugs, invertebrates and other lifeforms

Cryptozoology and Philately
These pages feature stamps of animals which once were or are still considered legendary, but which may actually exist. Stamps of animals thought to be extinct but which have been found alive are also featured. Other stamps depict supposedly extinct animals for which sightings continue to occur. All of these animals are called "cryptids." Cryptozoology is the study of cryptids.
