Hug Point August 97

i wonder

do you recall that day
we dropped our shoes by the sun bleached log
lying halfway buried in the sand

barefoot

slowly

walked to the sea

and the sands
they sang
beneath our toes

flowed across themselves
like the wind
in our hair

that day

your pockets filled with all my treasures
those little round stones
pieces of shells

and sand

i wonder

do you recall
how the surf tossed fingers of sea
towards our toes

the darkened sand chilled

and our footprints filled
not with sand
but with the sea

that day

i wonder

do you recall
then near the sun bleached log

those little warm winding rivers that you let fall
grain by grain
through your fingers
over my legs
tickling
warm
making us laugh

i wonder

did you know i fell in love that day

with the sea

with life

with sands that sing

and with you
all over again
