Western Painted Turtle

When we were kids, my sister and I used to take our rowboat and an old beat up fishing net with a long handle to hunt turtles along the shore and at the edges of the the bog islands on our lake. I think those early experiences helped us learn teamwork, because it took both of us to catch those hundreds of turtles back then. Of course now, we would not even consider interfering with these wild creatures, but back then, we didn't know better. Although we would sometimes accidentally catch a very mad and very dangerous-looking moss back snapping turtle, we mostly caught these beautiful western painted turtles. No turtles were ever harmed in the process, albeit we did frighten the tar out of them. The big thing back then was to paint their shells, then release them to see if you could spot your turtle again, but we never did that as it seemed cruel even back then. Moss agate beads and a shell carved turtle complete this fast little bag.
